LEWIS & CLARK SIGNATURE EVENT IN IDAHO Commemorating the return trip of Lewis and Clark through northern Idaho in 1806, "The Summer of Peace: Among the Nimiipuu" is scheduled for June 2006 in Lewiston, Idaho. The National Council of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial has named "The Summer of Peace" a National Signature Event in honor of its important historical significance. The Summer of Peace will pay tribute to the historic, cultural and natural legacies associated with the expedition's return journey in 1806 and the significant impact the Nimiipuu Nez Perce people had on the success of the expedition. The community will host activities for nearly two weeks, June 5-17, with key signature events scheduled for June 14-17, 2006. June 14-17: The Summer of Peace National Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Signature Event. Hosted by the Nez Perce Tribe Nimiipuu . Events and activities at LCSC campus, Lapwai, and Nez Perce National Historical Park Spalding . - June 5-17: Corps of Discovery II: 200 Years into the Future, LCSC
National Park Service interpretive displays about the Lewis & Clark expedition traveling along the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail from coast to coast 2003-2006. Exhibit includes two educational tents: an exhibit tent and "The Tent of Many Voices” which features live interpretation and entertainment. Corps II will be accompanied by other unique displays. - June 13-15: Lewis and Clark Symposium: Among the Nez Perce, LCSC. Forum where parallel stories from the Nez Perce and the Corps of Discovery come together to explore the relationship between the two groups.
- June 14: Opening Ceremonies, Spalding. Featuring Grand Entry by Idaho and Trail Tribes, Horse Parade, Nez Perce Nation Drums, Dance of Gifts by Nez Perce Children, Giving of Gifts, Welcome Dance, Owl Dance, and Circle Dance with crowd participation.
- June 14: Fife and Drum Corps & Nez Perce Drums, LCSC.
- June 14-17: Peace Village, LCSC. Daily interpretive activities, music, story-telling, traditional art and craft demonstrations, traditional games stick and ball games, tipi pitching, etc. , art, craft and food vendors, re-enactments, and other activities hosted by Nez Perce Tribal members and elders.
- June 14–17: The Summer of Peace Quilt & Hide Show, LCSC. Event will highlight an exquisite array of handiwork by regional quilters themed around the "Summer of Peace Among the Nez Perce" along with hand processed animal hides by Nez Perce artists in the form of painted robes and shields.
- June 14-17: Re-enactors Encampment, LCSC.
- June 14–17: Bicentennial Film Festival, LCSC Library.
An impressive collection of quality films, most produced specifically for the bicentennial. Films represent many years of research and provide information not normally encountered in “history” books. - June 15: Mural Dedication, Lewis & Clark Visitor Center
Dedication of the Weetes mother earth mural created by Sara Penney, a Nez Perce artist and the unveiling of the Weetxuuwiis Women Who Was Captured and Returned mural by a Nimiipuu artist. - June 15 -16 Healing Conference, LCSC. Bringing cultures together for two days of positive interaction.
- June 16: Boat Parade. Begins at 9:45 p.m at the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater Rivers.
- June 16-17: Stick Game Tournament, Clearwater River Casino
- June 16-18: Indian Softball Tournament, Lewiston.
- June 16-18: Gathering of the Chiefs Pow Wow & Craft Fair, Lapwai. Drumming, dancing, traditional games competitions, food vendors.
- June 16-18: Nez Perce Golf Tournament, Bryden Canyon Golf Course
- June 17: Summer of Peace Closing Ceremonies, LCSC. Enjoy Nez Perce music and dancers, as well as a ceremony reenacting the meeting of the Corps of Discovery with the Nez Perce on the return trip in 1806.

Nez Perce fashion over the past 200 years. - June 10: A Day in the Park with the Nimiipuu, Riverside Park, Kamiah. Theatrical programming by Nimiipuu elders and children re-created through pageantry, song, and verse. Join us for this colorful and dramatized documentary as well as traditional Nimiipuu arts, crafts and foods.
